Drone attacks extend campaign targeting Sudan’s power system
Published Nov 2, 2026
According to Al Jazeera – Breaking News, World News and Video from Al Jazeera, a recent series of drone strikes has severely impacted Sudan’s electrical grid, resulting in 18 separate attacks over the past week. The most recent incidents, which occurred on Monday, caused widespread blackouts after hitting substations in the Northern State and the eastern region of Kassala. While social media footage purportedly shows fires at these facilities, the network noted that it could not independently verify the authenticity of these videos.
The Sudanese government has officially accused Ethiopia of assisting the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in these operations against civilian infrastructure. In response to these alleged ties, Khartoum has submitted formal complaints to both the African Union’s Peace and Security Council and the United Nations Security Council, seeking international intervention regarding Ethiopia's supposed involvement in the conflict.
Simultaneously, the Sudanese military announced that it has seen an increase in defections among the ranks of the RSF. The army reported that a group of fighters surrendered in Damazin, the capital of Blue Nile state. Furthermore, a senior RSF commander named Siddiq Ander appeared in video footage to confirm his departure from the group, providing the military with details about operational command and alleged foreign support.
